What is dry cleaning?

The usual understanding of cleaning clothes involves washing things with soap and water. The “dry” part of the name is an indication that no water is used, as it can damage some fabrics. However, there is still liquid involved.

Garments are loaded into the dry cleaning machine after processing they are dried and pressed. After processing, the remaining solvent is distilled and filtered to purify it from dirt, oil, and other waste residues. Then, the purified solvent can be stored and reused.

It can be tempting to wash that “dry clean only” garment in the regular washer to try to save yourself the hassle of taking it to the cleaners, but you may end up causing yourself more harm instead. When you don’t follow the cleaning instructions, there are more chances that the garment may damage. It may shrink significantly, stretch out of shape, tear and bleed dyes. Dry cleaning is a gentler process and is safer for delicate fabrics, sequins, and lace.

We need not worry when we wear clothes that are dry cleaned. Dry cleaning is not a harmful process but it is a process which helps the garment to stay intact and not go out of shape or lose its texture

Dry cleaning helps a garment to not lose its texture, shape, increases the life etc.,

  Dry cleaning-

  • Preserves delicate fabrics
  • Improves the longevity of your clothing
  • Likelihood of color bleeding, shrinking & distorting are greatly reduced
  • Gives professional attention for your clothes
  • Saves time

The most important difference between wet cleaning and dry cleaning when it comes to professional cleaners is the use of non-water solvents in “dry” cleaning and the use of water-based cleaning agents or solvents in “wet” cleaning.

Drycleaning actually preserves the clothes. Drycleaning maintains the fresh and new look on the fabric for a much longer period of time.

Steam Iron uses heat and moisture (from the hot water vapor) to remove wrinkles and smooth the surface of the fabric

Dry Iron on the other hand, is a device that uses heat and pressure (from the weight of the iron and applied pressure) to remove wrinkles from fabric

The usage of steam iron or dry iron depends on the type of fabric that is going to be ironed
